EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a portion of a list of noteworthy incidents and investigations undertaken by Prince District RCMP between April 23 and 29.

Graffiti damage in O’Leary

On April 26, West Prince RCMP received a complaint of damage to property at the O’Leary Sports Centre. A garage door was damaged by graffiti, believed to have happened between April 20 and 23. As well, a complaint was received from the Canadian Potato Museum in O’Leary, reporting a similar occurrence of graffiti. The investigation for both reports of damage is continuing.

Caught napping

On April 26 at about 4 p.m., West Prince RCMP was called to the parking lot of a business in Bloomfield Corner, to perform a well-being check. The complainant reported two people who appeared to be either asleep or unconscious in a parked vehicle. Police verified that the occupants were waiting for a friend and that all was in order.

Scams ongoing

The public is reminded that phone scams are continuing to occur, with calls saying the person owes money to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and that they will be arrested if they do not transfer an amount of money through wire transfer. The victim is usually threatened with arrest by police to intimidate them into sending money. The public is reminded to verify any calls from CRA or anyone requesting a money transfer and to report these suspicious calls to the Canadian AntiFraud Centre 1-888-495-8501. Do not provide personal information or send money for any type of suspicious requests.

Traffic violations racking up

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 27 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints and patrols in May, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cellphone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
