Young Millionaires Program launches 2018 initiative

- JOURNAL PIONEER STAFF

The Young Millionaires Program is back for another year and organizers are looking for participants between ages 8 and 16 years old with an interest in entrepreneurship.

“Entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in PEI and it all stems from a passion or an idea,” said Wayne Easter, Member of Parliament for Malpeque. Easter announced recently an investment from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) for $43,480 for the Young Millionaire’s Program. The Young Millionaires Program (YMP) is a summer initiative designed to introduce youth to business field and spark their entrepreneurial spirit.

Participants attend four adventure workshops designed to teach the fundamentals of operating their own business. Participants are encouraged to develop new and innovative business ideas that they will grow into actual operating businesses during the summer.

There is no cost to participate in the program and businesses are eligible for a non-repayable grant of up to $100 for sole proprietorships and $150 for partnerships. Last year the program helped start over 140 new businesses across the Island with over 180 new entrepreneurs participating.

Students typically create a business related to their personal interests such as dog walking or selling photographs of captured Island scenery.

Representatives will be visiting schools over the next couple of weeks to promote the program. Presentations will be given in both English and French language schools. Interested? Apply before May 28 as space is limited. For more information, or to register, visit the program website at www. ymppei.com or call Emily Kott at 902-887-3400.
