Celtic music fundraiser set for Green Island Getaways.

-

On Friday, the Trout River Environmental Committee (TREC) will hold a Celtic music fundraiser concert at Green Island Getaways in North Granville in their restored barn. The concert will feature Cynthia MacLeod as well as TREC director Colin Jeffrey (fiddle) performing with Irish musician Cian O’Morain (guitar/whistles) and Mary MacGillivray (vocals/bodhran).

Also on stage will be piper Mark Douglas and the Irish duo Cosan.

O’Morain and MacGillivray are becoming well known for performing authentic Irish music, songs and stories across P.E.I., while Jeffrey is often seen at the Old Triangle in Charlottetown and in the Ireland Meets Scotland show. MacLeod is well known for her high-energy P.E.I. fiddle style while Douglas and Cosan are frequently seen at pub sessions and Celtic concerts across the Island.

All proceeds will go towards the Trout River Committee’s 2018 river restoration work. TREC manages six watersheds and about 150 kilometres of rivers and streams that flow

into New London Bay. Its work in recent years has included cutting back alders, removing excess silt and planting thousands of native trees along the banks, as well as replacing a road culvert and building rock weirs to improve fish passage under roads in the area. “We are starting to see some encouraging results from all of this work which is very exciting,” said Jeffrey. “Our funding also allows us to offer several free educational events each year where the public can learn about the wildlife that live in our watersheds and ways to give them a helping hand.” TREC’s May 25 concert is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Green Island Getaways venue at 1132, Rte. 254 in North Granville.

Tickets will be available at the door for $12.50 (adults) and $8 (under 14 years) with beverages and dessert offered for purchase during intermission.

“We hope that our fundraiser concert will allow us to expand our restoration work this year and increase the number of healthy rivers and streams that we have across our watersheds,” added Jeffrey.
