Celebrate bold styles and ‘80s music with adult prom

Dance at Confederation Court Mall to support Anderson House

Adults can dust off their dancing shoes and spin to all the hits from the 1980s, while supporting a worthy cause at the Confederation Court Mall on Saturday, May 26.

The fundraiser for Anderson House will celebrate the best – and worst – of this retro period, and partygoers are encouraged to come dressed for the occasion.

Event organizer, Amanda Gallant says the upcoming adult prom returns to the roots of her first major fundraiser, but with a new theme, “Like, Totally 80s Prom.”

“When I first started producing these events, it was because I wanted to bring people together and make some great memories. However, after hearing the personal stories of women who have received help from Anderson House, it became much more than throwing a party,” she said.

After the success of Gallant’s first fundraisers, “Enchantment Under the Sea - a Prom Do-Over for Grown Ups” in 2015, she realized that her dual passions for event planning and supporting the Charlottetown community had the potential to do much more than simply entertain.

Adults will have a second chance to relive their prom, but without the high school chaperones.

Redwater Rustic Grille will provide a full bar, and Satellite Pizza will provide the food. The event runs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the food court of the Confederation Mall.

Tickets for the licensed event (for those 19 and over) are available at Luna Eclectic Emporium, located at 111 Grafton Street, and are $25 each, or $40 for two tickets.

There will also be a donation box at the prom entrance on the night of the event. For every $5 donated, the ticketholder will receive a ballot to win prizes from mall merchants and the Holman Grand Hotel. All money raised will go directly to Anderson House, which is a P.E.I. emergency shelter for women and children who are in need of safety because of violence in their lives.
