Pro stockers back on the track

Island drivers Darren MacKinnon and Dylan Gosbee look to rise in the Tour points chase Saturday in Enfield, N.S.

The Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour makes its first stop of the season at Scotia Speedworld in Enfield, N.S., convening for the Cummins 150 on Saturday.

It’s the second race of the season on the Maritime circuit and the first of four landings at Scotia Speedworld this summer.

Heats start at 4 p.m., grandstand­s gates open at 1 p.m.

Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, N.S.) heads to his home track with the championsh­ip points lead after winning the season opener last week in River Glade, N.B. Blenkhorn’s followed by 2016 Series champion Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake, N.S.) Island drivers Darren MacKinnon (Charlottet­own) and Dylan Gosbee (Cornwall) sit third and fifth, respective­ly, in the points race and aim at rising in the standings. Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, N.S.) is fourth.

The Exide Batteries rookie of the year battle kicked off last weekend with Cory Hall (Jolicure, N.B.) finishing seventh, good for a spot just outside the top five. Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, N.L.) and Braden Langille (Shubenacad­ie, N.S.) also had respectabl­e runs against a stout field in the season opener as the freshman drivers earned top-20 finishes. The Maritime League of Legends kick off its 2018 campaign with a 50-lap feature before the Pro Stock feature, as does the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series.

The Affordable Fuels Sportsman, Toursec Thunder and Lightning and the Strictly Hydraulics Legend classes will hit the track.
