Move for arthritis

Walk to conquer crippling disease on Sunday, June 3

-

Although there is no cure for the painful disease that reduces mobility and damages joints, there is hope.

The Arthritis Society is gearing up for their ninth annual fundraiser that supports cutting-edge research and programs to help the 25,000 Islanders living with arthritis. “Supporting the Walk for Arthritis truly does make a difference in the lives of Islanders affected by this disease,” remarked Rebecca Gariepy, community engagement coordinator for the Arthritis Society’s P.E.I. Division. “We’d love to see everyone out in Charlottetown and Summerside to have a great time and help support their friends, family and co-workers. It’s a really fun event for the whole family with food and prizes.”

Walk for Arthritis will take place in Summerside and Charlottetown on Sunday, June 3. The Summerside event is at the waterfront boardwalk with registration at 10 a.m., and the walk starting at 11 a.m.

The Charlottetown walk takes place at the University of Prince Edward outdoor track, with registration starting at noon and the walk beginning at 1 p.m.

Walk for Arthritis brings families, friends and organizations together in over 45 communities across Canada. It builds a community of support for Canadians with arthritis, and serves to elevate public awareness of the challenges of living with this devastating disease.

Last year, the Arthritis Society on P.E.I. offered in-person programs to hundreds of people across the Island and provided education on juvenile arthritis to over 500 junior high school students, in addition to the funds raised for research
