Comic book art exhibit at Eptek Centre

There is a thriving community of comic book creators on Prince Edward Island, each with their own unique style and means of telling stories visually. The newest exhibit on display now at Eptek Art & Culture Centre, “Behind the Panels: Selected Works by Various Island Comic Book Creators,” presents a few of these creators who are continually hard at work getting their stories out there, traditionally and digitally. Where once the Island was rather isolated for comic book creation, it now has a strong presence in the global village, with both digital and social communication, says Sandy Carruthers, the exhibit’s co-curator. The exhibit reveals the talent P.E.I. has to offer. “It’s a great time to be creating comics,” added Carruthers. The exhibit features the work of Jeff Alward, Jess Anne, Sandy Carruthers, Brenda Hickey, Tyler Landry, Troy Little, Ramón Sierra, and Jenni Zelin. “Behind the Panels” also offers a glimpse at some of the upcoming rising talent that tomorrow will bring. All are welcome to attend the official exhibit opening, on Sunday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at Eptek Art & Culture Centre. There is no charge to attend and refreshments will be served. Be advised that some of the artwork is meant for an older audience. “Behind the Panels” will be on display until Oct. 5. Eptek Art & Culture Centre is a site of the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation and is located at 130 Heather Moyse Drive on the Summerside waterfront.
