Window smashed, people assaulted in Prince County

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between June 11 and 17 when 135 occurrence­s were investigat­ed by Prince District RCMP.

Car window smashed

On June 15 at 9:10 a.m., West Prince RCMP received a report of damage to a vehicle while parked at a residence in O’Leary. The vehicle owner reported his windshield had been damaged during the overnight hours. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Man charged with assault

On June 15 at 4:30 p.m., members of East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a domestic assault that allegedly occurred the night prior, in Birch Hill. The victim advised she had been assaulted by a 45-year-old male. Upon receiving the complaint, the male was located at his residence a short time later and was arrested. He was charged with three counts of assault and released on conditions to have no contact with the victim, and appear in court on June 26.

Man charged with impaired driving

On June 17 at 11 p.m., West Prince RCMP conducted a checkstop on Route 12 in Alberton. A vehicle was noted turning into a driveway in attempt to avoid police. Police initiated a roadside traffic stop on the vehicle, whereby the driver, a 50-year-old male, displayed signs of intoxicati­on. The male was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and provided breath samples just under the legal limit. He was issued a 30-day Driving Suspension and charged under the Provincial Highway Traffic Act for Driving while Suspended, and for having no Insurance or Registrati­on. His vehicle was impounded for 60 days.

Elmsdale man charged in domestic dispute

On June 17 at around 12:50 p.m., members of West Prince RCMP responded to a call of a domestic dispute at a residence in Elmsdale. An intoxicate­d 44-year-old male was arrested for assault and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear before the court on June 18 to answer to charges of assault and failure to comply with a probation order.

Multiple calls this week

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 25 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoint­s throughout June, in various communitie­s across Prince District, targeting cellphone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
