Suspect sought after three robberies in Hunter River, Summerside areas
Two Island gas stations and a motel were robbed early Saturday morning in three different Island communities. Around 2 a.m. a male suspect entered the Travellers Inn motel on Route 2 near St. Eleanors. He demanded the clerk give him money from the cash register and left with a small amount of cash. No one was injured. Then, around 3 a.m. a man reportedly entered the Reads Corner Esso gas station, located on 820 Water St. in Summerside. The same male entered and demanded money and tobacco from the lone working employee. “One man entered the store at approximately 3:10 a.m. and was able to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash and tobacco, before police arrived on scene,” said the store’s area supervisor, Shelley Gallant. The employee was not injured. “She is just shaken by the incident,” said Gallant. “We don’t know if he was on foot or in a vehicle.” According to Gallant, the suspect was unarmed. Queens District RCMP responded just after 4 a.m. to a similar report of a robbery at the Irving in Hunter River. RCMP confirmed the same person suspected in this robbery is also believed to be involved in Summerside area incidents. “We believe it’s a male, about six-foot tall and average build,” said Sgt. Leanne Butler of Queens District RCMP.
The suspect was wearing a bandana over the lower portion of his face, had a hand in his pocket and demanded cash. He wore the same clothes in all three alleged robberies. No one was harmed in any of the three incidents. Police encourage the public or anyone who might have been in the area and using a dash cam on their vehicles to contact the RCMP or provide information anonymously via P.E.I. Crime Stoppers to help identify the suspect.
