Man charged in relation to hotel robbery arrested again
One of the men charged in relation to a May 27 Summerside hotel robbery has been arrested again. Summerisde Police Service said Tuesday that Congjie Tan, 26, had been arrested earlier that morning and charged with breaching a court undertaking. Tan was released from custody on June 26 while awaiting his next court date on the robbery-related charges. One of the conditions of his release was that he stay away from anyone known to have a criminal record. Police allege Tan was found at a Harvard Street home with several people with criminal records. Tan is now due back in court Wednesday for a show cause hearing to determine whether he’ll be released again or kept in custody while his cases continue through the courts. Tan is one of three co-accused in the hotel robbery case, the others being Aaron Christopher Prichard, 34, and Scott Bruce Dalziel, 40. All three men were allegedly involved in the robbery which precipitated the death of Jeremy Stephens, 32, of Summerside. Stephens was shot by police as they attempted to arrest him for suspected involvement in the same robbery. He later died in hospital. Since his arrest, Dalziel pleaded not guilty to the charges and has a trial date set for Aug. 27 and 28. Prichard has remained in custody since his arrest and recently had to get a new lawyer. He will be back in court on July 24 for an update. He has not entered a plea yet. Tan had been scheduled to return to court on Aug. 7 for an arraignment in P.E.I. Supreme Court regarding the robbery charges. Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team is currently investigating the circumstances of Stephens’ death.
