Summerside residents replace boys’ stolen scooters

- BY MILLICENT MCKAY

In a flash, Jaxon Rodgerson and Samson Smits were left heartbroken. The pair were playing in the woods behind Elm Street School recently when their scooters, which were left at the school’s bike rack, were stolen. “I was pretty sad; my scooter is my favourite thing,” said sevenyear-old Jaxon. Eight-year-old Samson added, “I was mad. I started to walk around the school to try to find it.” After they couldn’t find their wheels, the boys made their way to Samson’s house. “Once they got home and told us what happened, Jaxon’s mom and I jumped in the car and started driving around the neighbourhood hoping we could find their scooters,” said Amy, Samson’s mom. Unfortunately, their search was fruitless. Jaxon’s dad, Eric, then took to Facebook asking for the public’s help in finding the scooters. It wasn’t long before Brenda MacIsaac saw the post and called her son Pacey. “I was actually at a skate park when I got the call. Mom said that she saw a post about a little fella’s bike being stolen. “She wondered if I would be willing to give him my old scooter that was just sitting in the basement.

“It was a no brainer. I told her to go for it and give it to him,” said Pacey. Shortly after, Gordie Whitlock contacted Eric and told him not to worry about a scooter for Samson, he would be able to pick one up at Scooter Depot. “I didn’t even know Samson was getting a scooter until the morning after. It was like there was this Facebook explosion and Eric got a hold of me to say that the boys were going to have scooters again,” said Amy. Now with scooters secured for both boys, they can go back to riding through the summer. “I was elated,” said Samson with a grin. Amy smiled at her son, “It’s great to see them being kids again. It’s unfortunate that they had to go through this though.” MacIsaac agreed. “It’s definitely a bummer. I remember how it feels to have your bike or scooter taken. I was about their age or a bit older and I was walking out the door to go riding with my friends. When I went to grab my bike, it was gone. It wasn’t a nice feeling. It sucks that these little guys had to go through it too. “But now that they have scooters again it makes me smile to see them happy. I’m glad my old scooter has a new home.”
