Champions crowned in Lobster Fest tournament

New champions were recently crowned in both men’s and women’s categories at the 14th annual Lobster Fest beach volleyball tournament on the grounds of Credit Union Place. In all, championsh­ips were awarded in 10 different divisions, and there were 103 teams from across the Maritimes entered. In the competitiv­e men’s doubles, Eliot Estey and Ben Mitsuk defeated the veteran team of Alex Barret and Andrew Jeans in the final. Liam and Miro Pelletier defeated Neil Devanny and Diogo Burney to earn a third-place showing. In competitiv­e women’s doubles, Raeesa Lelani and Petra Rafuse were defeated by Luba Andrushenk­o and Vicky Anderson of Halifax. Tatjana Golovin and Michelle Campbell finished third after topping Moncton’s Hub City Beach Bums – Chantal Senecal and Marie-Michelle Losier. In competitiv­e men’s fours, Who Needs Middles – Estey/Mitsuk and Mercier/Salazar – captured top honours. I.O. Solutions of Summerside picked up thirdplace honours. Barret/Rafuse took the division title in competitiv­e co-ed doubles, and the JBLR team, also from Halifax, won the competitiv­e co-ed fours. Team members were Jeans, Barrett, Lelani and Rafuse.

Recreation­al divisions

In men’s recreation­al doubles, Dustin Tingley and Stephane Richard from Moncton earned their first championsh­ip prize, defeating Shawn Smith and Marc Girouard. The local team of Cory MacDougall and Stavert MacLeod, called the 2 Big Macs, took third place. In women’s recreation­al doubles, Kim Roberts and Ashley Howell claimed top honours. Kyra Doyle and Karen Farag came third. In co-ed recreation­al doubles, Ontario native Ola Mioduszews­ki and Kevin Doiron defeated Adam Stavert and Jessica Stavert in the final. Troy and Kelly Flowers won over Mikaela Girard and Logan VanderVeld­en in the third-place match. In co-ed recreation­al fours, the Multiple Scorgasm team defeated the Sloppy Sets to earn their first Lobster Fest title. Third place went to the Bumpin Uglies. In co-ed recreation­al play featuring six players, the local Greco team lost to I.O. Solutions in the final. Hens Dream placed third after defeating Capt. Sub. The 15th annual Lobster Fest beach volleyball tournament will take place in Summerside from July 18 to 21, 2019.
