This Sunday’s Mont-Carmel Summer Concert features Kendra MacGillivray’s fiddle
The second last show of the Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series at the parish hall will feature Anique Granger from Quebec, Kendra MacGillivray from Nova Scotia, along with P.E.I.’s Meaghan Blanchard and Caroline Bernard.
Only two shows remain of the eight being presented during the Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series every Sunday evening until Aug. 26. The artists who will take the stage of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall this Sunday are Caroline Bernard, Anique Granger, Meaghan Blanchard and Kendra MacGillivray from Nova Scotia. Granger from Québec and Caroline Bernard from the Évangéline region in P.E.I. will share the stage for a special performance. Born in Saskatchewan and now living in Montréal, Anique is an accomplished singer/songwriter. She carefully crafts the lyrics of her songs with patience and devotion. She’s also a talented guitarist who writes catchy melodies. Bernard balances her love of music with her family life due to the passion and conviction she inherited from her mom who is also a singer-songwriter from the Évangéline area. With her unique vocals and stage presence, her songs speak of love, life and everything that follows. For the last few weeks, these two artists have been meeting regularly on Skype to collaborate, rework some of their original songs, and put together this partnership between Acadian and Québecois artists. ECMA award-winning Blanchard is an acclaimed singer and musician, who pairs her self-penned songs with a crystal voice and an ability to tell stories through charming characterdriven songs. She has performed for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, played 47 shows in 15 days at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and has toured extensively across Canada and the United Kingdom. From Cape Breton to British Columbia, from Nunavut to New Zealand, MacGillivray has performed for thousands and inspired hundreds of fiddlers and students. At a young age, she started teaching in an old oneroom schoolhouse, close to her home in Lanark, N.S. Since then, she has recorded four traditional fiddle albums, won two East Coast Music Awards and has travelled internationally, teaching at workshops and performing on stages with other world class musicians. A year ago, MacGillivray moved from P.E.I. back to Nova Scotia with her husband, Bruce Rainnie, and two sons. This will be her one and only performance in Prince Edward Island this summer. Kaylee Arsenault will stepdance to the sounds of Kendra’s fiddle. The Aug. 19 concert, sponsored by Township Chevrolet, will start at 7 p.m. and the doors of the hall at 5786 Route 11, Mont-Carmel, open at 6:15 p.m. During the evening, 50/50 tickets will be sold and the canteen will be open.
