Tétreault and Scarfone at Harbourfront

-

Harbourfront Theatre welcomes classical musicians Stéphane Tétreault and Marie-Ève Scarfone to the stage on Sept. 23. Tétreault (cello) and Scarfone (piano) are two young musicians who make music beyond their years. Hailing from Montreal, they released an album “Haydn, Schubert and Brahms” garnering Gramophone Magazine’s Critic’s Choice 2016. They come to Harbourfront in partnership with Debut Atlantic. Harbourfront Theatre’s executive director, Kieran Keller, has had the opportunity of seeing them perform before at an Atlantic Presenters’ Association showcase where he says he was struck by the duo’s skill and artistry. “Before they started playing, I guess you could say we weren’t expecting anything special. But then they began, and wow!” says Keller. “You could see everyone in the room take a step back. We were all just blown away by their talent.” What is also unique to this classical duo’s performances is the little piece of history that comes on stage with them – a cello from 1707. The “Countess of Stainlein, Ex-Paganini” Stradivarius cello is on loan to Tétreault through the generosity of the late Jacqueline Desmarais. “When I was first told that Tétreault would be playing a centuries old cello at the showcase, I thought it was cool, but I wasn’t expecting it to sound any differently than any other cello,” remembers Keller. “But again, I was proven wrong and was blown away. The sound was incredible.” Tétreault and Scarfone perform Sunday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m., and for those who love the excuse to dress up, Harbourfront invites attendees to feel free to do just that. “We think it’s really fun to dress up every now and then, and we felt this concert was the perfect opportunity to get dressed up with our patrons and enjoy the evening together with Tétreault and Scarfone.” For more information about this and other shows, visit harbourfronttheatre.com or visit/call their box office 902-8882500.
