She can’t actually recall the name of the song she chose to sing way back then, but Joselyn Jelley can trace her involvement in singing competitions back to a Little Miss Blossom Pageant, when she was six. Whatever the song was, it hooked her and helped her win the Little Miss title. The Howlan resident estimates she’s entered at least 100 singing competitions since then, winning some. In July, she entered the Miss Potato Blossom Pageant and chose singing as her talent. This time she opted for an original song, ‘The Other Side,’ from her recently released “Adventure Boulevard” album. By the way, she was crowned queen of that pageant, too. The album, recorded at Moe Hashie’s Rehearsal Spot studio, features eight songs written by Hashie. For the CD jacket, Jelley went with a photo of her standing on a red dirt road with a street sign behind her. “It was a good way for me to represent a small town with dirt roads,” she reasons. Adventure Blvd, she reflects, is a catchy title. Jelley, who’s heading off to University of New Brunswick in Fredericton to study Kinesiology, expressed appreciation for Hashie’s songs and his mentorship. She had several original songs to choose from and described the selection as a team effort. She identifies the Dixie Chicks as one of her key musical influences. Adventure Blvd CDs are available for sale at O’Leary Guardian Drug and Alberton Home Hardware.
