Summerside police charged two people with impaired driving this past weekend and suspended the license of a third. The first incident happened just after midnight, Saturday morning. Officers on patrol noticed a vehicle travelling in the downtown area at a high rate of speed and crossing over the center line. The vehicle was pulled over on Granville Street, near Victoria Road. The driver, a 23-year-old Summerside man, displayed signs he had been drinking and was subjected to a roadside test. The driver failed the roadside test, was arrested and charged with impaired driving. Then, at 2:10 am Saturday morning, police were called to the area of a Granville Street convenience store for a report of the driver of a vehicle who appeared to be impaired. The man had left the scene before police arrived, but the vehicle was located a few minutes later on Heather Moyse Drive. The driver, a 36-year-old California resident, failed a roadside screening test and was arrested for impaired driving. He later provided breath samples over the legal limit and was released from custody after posting bond. He will be appearing in court at a later date to face impaired driving charges. The third incident involved a 63-year-old Cornwall man. Just before 12:30 p.m., Sunday, police stopped a vehicle for having the wrong plate attached. Officers had reason to suspect the driver had been consuming alcohol and administered a roadside test, which resulted in the driver’s license being suspended for seven days. The driver was also charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
