After a successful first season on Spinnakers Landing, owners and operators of Uncle Mike’s on the Water are looking forward to a new location, this time on Water Street. “It was a phenomenal season. The tourists and the locals were very receptive. It was a restaurant that filled a need in Summerside that otherwise wasn’t being met,” said the restaurant’s manager, Andrew Birch. Opened earlier this summer, Uncle Mike’s on the Water is owned by Michael Perry and his mom Maxine Casey. “Mike is a real larger than life personality, so we’d be remiss if we didn’t attribute some of the success to him. He was very instrumental in the experience we provided to customers.” Although the opening date for the new location is a moving target, Birch is hoping to see the doors open in early October. “We’re going to be open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., 24/7. During regular hours we will be a family friendly restaurant with a full kitchen – something like a Jack Astors,” explained Birch. “Then, for now, on Fridays and Saturdays we’ll have club nights from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. We’ve seen there is a real demand from the 20-something crowd in the area for an establishment like this. So, when Mike and I sat down and began planning for this location, we knew the club nights were an investment we were willing to make. “We want to give a taste of the big city to Summerside.” The establishment will be located in the former Big Mug at 271 Water Street. Birch says it will be a restaurant for minor special events and more. They also plan to expand the menu to include more kids’ options, ribs, rotisserie chicken and other choices. At the same time, they plan to keep staples like the foot-long hot dog and Montreal smoked meat sandwich. There will also be an appetizer menu and other dishes unique to the establishment.
