Visitor restrictions continued at PCH
Visitor restrictions at Prince County Hospital in Summerside will be maintained through the weekend as patients and staff continue to experience symptoms of gastro-intestinal illness. While some have recovered from the illness, several continue to experience symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. Until further notice, visitors will not be permitted on the medical unit or the restorative/ surgery unit. Visitation may be allowed in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the health care team. “We are very pleased that the majority of patients and staff who had been experiencing symptoms of gastro-intestinal illness are now well on their way to recovery, however several patients are still experiencing symptoms, which is why we are continuing with visitor restrictions through the weekend,” said Tara Ferguson, provincial infection prevention and control supervisor. “We appreciate that the visitor restrictions have been difficult for patients and their loved ones. We want to thank them for their cooperation and understanding as our staff work diligently to help contain the outbreak and protect the health and safety of everyone at Prince County Hospital.” Ferguson added that it is important for everyone coming to the hospital to clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room, a department and upon entering and leaving the facility. Alcohol hand rinse stations are available throughout the hospital for this purpose. The situation will be reassessed Monday morning as more information becomes available. A further update will be provided at that time.
