Property damage, accidents and candle-caused fire

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Sept. 24 and 30. A total of 101 incidents were reported.

Candle causes house fire

On Sept. 25, at about 4 a.m., West Prince RCMP got a call of a structure fire at a residence in Roxbury. The fire was a result of a candle over-burning on top of a wood stove. No injuries were sustained and the fire was contained to the kitchen area.

Woman taken to hospital

following crash

On Sept. 25, at about 7 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of a woman sitting in the bushes on the side of the road in South Freetown. Police attended. The 27-year-old woman had been in an accident down the road and was attempting to walk home. The female was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Crapaud signs vandalized

On Sept. 27, at about 8 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of vandalism on several buildings and signs throughout the exhibition grounds in Crapaud. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

Fishing boat towed

On Sept. 28, at about 8:30 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a call of a fishing vessel that appeared to be stuck on a sandbar. Coast Guard attended and towed the boat free.

There were no injuries.

Woman arrested at liquor store

On Sept. 28, at approximat­ely 3 p.m., East Prince RCMP arrested a 41-year-old woman at the Tyne Valley Liquor Store after it was reported that she had been driving a motor vehicle.

The woman provided breath samples of over three-times the legal limit. She is scheduled to attend

court in early November.

Traffic enforcemen­t ongoing

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 18 trafficrel­ated complaints.

These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoint­s throughout the month of September, in various communitie­s across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
