The Atlantic Breeders Crown Weekend of Champions got underway Friday, with the 2018 edition of the Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale in Crapaud.

Approximately 120 colts and fillies found new homes in preparation of their freshman careers.

The Atlantic Breeders Crown consolations are being contested at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, with a post time of 12:30 p.m. The banquet will be hosted by the Prince Edward Island Horse Owners Association on Saturday night. The event is once again sold out, with the audience being entertained in the Top Of The Park restaurant in the Red Shore’s grandstand.

Sunday

The Sunday Thanksgiving card, also a 12:30 p.m. post time, is nothing short of spectacular.

One of the greatest two-yearold pacing fillies in Maritime history is the undefeated Magical Mistress. She has toyed with the Island track records, and has set a track record on Cape Breton Island. This filly looks effortless on the racetrack, and paced a closing quarter in 27 and change in her last race. That’s one, if not the fastest, closing quarters by an Island-bred two-year-old filly ever.

Come watch her, you won’t be disappointed!

The top two freshman trotters will hook up on Sunday. Dust-ylane

Titan (Marc Campbell) has drawn an outside post, and he will be taking on arch-rival Mile Hill Willie (Gilles Barrieau) in their $9,000 trot final.

In the three-year-old trot final, the filly West River Cindy will be taking on the top two mare trotters in a $9,000 contest. Buckaroo and Win de mere dont u worry will make this race one of the most unpredictable of the day. Cindy has drawn inside, and it may be enough of an edge.

Over in the two-year-old pacing championship, there is no goingaway favourite. Red Dirt Boomer has the fastest trip of the season – 1:57 and change. However, all the top point colts are in this $20,000 final, and they will be “sitting up.”

The three-year-old pacing filly crown is also loaded with talent. R E’s Shabla equalled the threeyear-old filly record Old Home Week in 1:55 flat, which is tops on the season. She also has rail control Sunday.

Royalty Westho will be leaving from Post 4, and has won eight stake races this year. She’s not the only danger in here as Bettim

Jackie is a little farther outside at the start from Post 6. Jackie has over $85,000 in prize money earned in 2018.

If that’s not enough, Tobins Terror and her $43,000 in Maritime money won this year is scoring on the grandstand side Sunday. What a field of fillies!

I think you can crown Sock It Away in the three-year-old colt class. No colt has been able to beat him this year, and a win on Sunday will give him 15 in a row. It’s all over!

Summerside Monday

Thanksgiving weekend racing continues at Red Shores at Summerside on Monday. There will be a 12-dash program commencing at 1 p.m.

The Monday feature goes in Race 11 for a purse of $2,200. Fast N Victorious is the morning-line favorite in the field of six.
