Magical Mistress, Sock It Away remain perfect

- BY NICHOLAS OAKES RED SHORES

A pair of undefeated streaks will last at least through the 2018 Atlantic Sires Stakes season as Sock It Away and Magical Mistress continued their perfection in Atlantic Breeders Crown action Sunday at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Magical Mistress has yet to be beat in her career as she extended the streak to 10 races in the $20,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown final for two-year-old pacing fillies in 1:56.1 for driver Adam Merner, trainer Stephen Gass and owner Barry Martin of Sydney, N.S.

Merner and Gass also teamed up to win the $9,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown Meridian Farms three-year-old trot final in a huge upset at 33-1 odds with Buddy White in 2:00.3. Blayne White of Belle River owns Buddy White. The other $9,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown Meridian Farms trot final was won by two-yearold colt Mile Hill Willie in 2:03.4 for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau and owner Paul Morrison of Cardigan.

Barrieau had three wins on the day, including a victory in the $20,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown three-year-old pacing filly final with Bettim Jackie, stopping the clock in 1:56.2 for co-owner and trainer Jeff Lilley of Milton, and co-owners Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown and Danny Purcell of Newport, N.S. Notorious scored an 11-1 upset in the $20,000 two-yearold pacing colt Atlantic Breeders Crown final as part of a five-win day for driver Marc Campbell in 2:00.1. Notorious is co-owned and trained by Darryl MacLean with co-owners Gordon MacLean of Winsloe and Shirley Symes of Springhill, N.S.

One of Campbell’s other wins came as Sock It Away extended his perfect year to 15-straight wins in the three-year-old pacing colt Atlantic Breeders Crown final. The son of Pang Shui scored a front-end victory in 1:54.4 for trainer Kevin Maclean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.
