Payment missing at Canada Revenue

-

I am writing to inform the public if you’re using on-line banking to pay Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for taxes owing. Using this method is not as safe and secure as CRA assures us it is. With my problem, it is not the bank’s fault but solely lies with CRA. I made five payments through my bank to Canada Revenue.

On Sept. 20 a payment was made, and on Sept. 27 another payment. I checked my account to see if these payments had been credited to my account. The payment on Sept. 27 was credited, the payment on Sept. 20 had not been.

I checked with my bank first, that it may possibly lie with the bank. I found out that it had been forwarded to CRA. I called Canada Revenue to find out why I had not been credited with a payment which appears to have disappeared somewhere. All of the payments I made were made in the same way. Four payments credited to my account and one seemingly has gone missing.

I was told the day of my inquiry that if I didn’t hear back from Canada Revenue in 12 weeks to call again. After getting over my initial anger at Canada Revenue, the question that came to mind, is if this happened, how many other taxpayers have had this happen?

I urge other taxpayers to think long and hard before sending their money

to CRA through their bank.
