Blizzard ends Caps’ winning streak
The Edmundston Blizzard ended the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals’ winning streak in thrilling fashion Saturday night. Dallas Maurovic’s evenstrength goal with eight seconds remaining broke a 4-4 tie, and lifted the Blizzard to a 5-4 comefrom-behind win before 2,825 fans at the Jean Daigle Centre.
After the first period ended in a 1-1 tie, the Caps led 3-1 after 40 minutes, and took a 4-3 lead with 5:14 remaining in the third period.
Sam King’s hat trick led Edmundston, which improved to 7-6-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Logan Johnston (1-2), who assisted on the game-winning goal, netted the other Blizzard goal. Kallum Muirhead (1-1), Sam Meisenheimer (1-1), Brodie MacMillan and Cam Roberts answered for the Eastlink North Division-leading Capitals (9-30), who entered the game having won eight straight games. Conor MacEachern, Calum MacPherson and Noah Massie drew assists.
Overall, the Caps held a slim 34-33 shots-on-goal advantage. Francis Asselin earned the goaltending win over Dominic Tmej. The game’s three stars were: 1. Sam King (Blizzard), 2. Dallas Maurovic (Blizzard), 3. Sam Meisenheimer (Capitals). The Caps visited the Grand Falls Rapids (4-5-1) on Sunday afternoon.
