As the daughter of the late Sheri McInnis, Jillian McInnis has presented several Community Inclusions’ Sheri McInnis Inclusive Employer awards.

This year when she was called forward to make the presentation, she learned the award was going to one of her employers, CHANCES Early Learning Centre in O’Leary. She’s been working there part-time for the past four months. She also works part-time at Kids West and Bloomfield Legion

After making the presentation, McInnis was called back to the front of the room, this time to receive the Sheri McInnis Perseverance Award.

She admitted it was extra special, and a surprise, to receive the award.

‘Jillian puts her heart and soul into work with children and we appreciate everything she does,” said CHANCES director, Krista Gallant.

Alicia Tremblay, assistant employment co-ordinator with Community Inclusions, said McInnis has made great leaps in the past year towards achieving her goals and in persevering. She noted the recipient even gave a speech at this year’s Community Inclusions annual general meeting.

“That was terrifying,” McInnis said, but agreed she grew from the experience.

“It is really nice to be able to include people of all ages and stages and people with varying abilities,” CHANCES Smart Start co-ordinator, Monique McClean acknowledged.

“It’s great for the children to see that everybody can work and be supported and be recognized.

“I think it is a great opportunity to us.”

McClean said it seems the employment at CHANCES is a good opportunity for McInnis. “And we’ve benefitted from her being with us,” she added.

“It’s a win-win for everybody.” McInnis says it’s working with and supporting children that makes her job special. “Let’s just say I really enjoy it.”
