Midget Regals remain undefeated
The Western Regals’ torrid start to the 2018-19 P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League continued Saturday night.
The Alberton-based Regals received two goals and two assists from Kalim DesRoches and Chandler DesRoches en route to a 10-0 decision over the visiting Pownal Red Devils.
In other league action, the Mid-Isle Matrix downed the Central Attack 5-1 on Friday night and the Kings County Kings won a pair of inter-locking games in Moncton, N.B., over the weekend. The Kings defeated Moncton 5-4 on Saturday and 8-3 on Sunday.
Regals 10 Red Devils 0
At the Jacques Cartier Arena, Jack Reilly (2), Ethan Reilly (1-2), Thomas Rennie (1-2), Thomas Shea and Alex Hutchison rounded out the scoring for the undefeated Regals, who sit at 8-0-0 (won-losttied) atop the five-team league standings. Austin Callaghan, Matt Williams and Kennedy Gallant all contributed two assists. The Regals held a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes, and then scored five times in the middle frame to open up a 6-0 cushion after 40 minutes.
Aiden Williams collected the shutout.
Pownal fell to 2-4-0.
Matrix 5 Attack 1
At the APM Centre in Cornwall, five different players scored for the host Matrix – Reese Wyand, Sam Bailey, Aaron McCloskey, Kyler Weeks and Carson MacKay. Josh Lund answered for the Attack (0-6-1).
After a scoreless first period, Mid-Isle took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
Matt Jelley registered the goaltending win.
Kings 8 Moncton 3
At the Superior Propane Centre, Owen MacNeil (3-2), Cam White (2-1), Gabe Hartlen (1-2), Riley Jamieson (1-2) and Jacob Outhouse provided goals for Kings County, which went into the intermissions ahead 4-3 and 7-3.
Winning goaltender was Nicholas Jamieson.
Kings 5 Moncton 4
At the Moncton Coliseum, the Kings built period leads of 3-2 and 5-2.
Jake MacLaren (2), Jack King (1-1), Riley Jamieson (1-1) and Hartlen netted goals for the second-place Kings (6-1-1), who are three points back of the Regals.
Ben Bruce picked up the goaltending decision.
