Aces post convincing wins

The Tignish Perry’s Constructi­on Aces made a move up the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior Hockey League standings over the weekend.

The Aces posted two solid victories – 8-2 over the SherwoodPa­rkdale Metros on Friday night and 4-1 versus the Southside Lynx. It was the Metros’ first loss of the 2018-19 regular season. The Aces, who are 5-2-0 (wonlost-overtime losses), completed weekend play in a first-place tie with the Metros (5-1-0), who were scheduled to host the North River Flames (0-6-0) on Monday night. In other action, the Summerside Cover-All Crunch got by the Flames 3-2 on Saturday.

Aces 4 Lynx 1

At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, Dawson Sellick (21), Will Tuplin (1-1) and Colton Chaisson scored for Tignish, which built period leads of 3-0 and 4-0.

Tyson Beckingham netted Southside’s lone tally. The Aces outshot the Lynx 3420. Koby Bridges earned the goaltendin­g win.

Aces 8 Metros 2

At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, Drake Smallman netted a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Aces. Chaisson (2-1), Sellick (2) and Brayden Arsenault (1-2) also dented the twine while Tuplin (3), Handrahan (2) and Keaton Horne (2) had multipleas­sist games.

Alex MacEachern and Michael Jenkins replied for the Metros.

Tignish held a 2-0 lead after one period, and extended that margin to 5-1 following 40 minutes. Winning goaltender was McGuire Gallant.

Crunch 3 Flames 2

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Brandon Hastings, James Birt and Connor Jones contribute­d goals for the Crunch (3-3-0). Patrick Young and Connor Andrews answered for North River. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first and second periods.

Izaac Ford registered the goaltendin­g victory.
