Big weekend for Warriors

Thompson makes 51 saves in win

It was a big weekend for the Prince County Warriors.

The Warriors registered backto-back one-goal road wins in the P.E.I. Major Bantam AAA Hockey League, including a 2-1 decision over the previously-undefeated Central Attack on Saturday. Sunday, the Warriors edged the MidIsle Matrix 3-2 in overtime. The O’Leary-based Warriors’ record is now 3-5-1 (won-lostoverti­me losses).

At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, Xavier Dalton’s goal 38 seconds into overtime capped a four-point weekend for the Warriors.

Patrick Shea (1-1), who tied the game 2-2 with 1:12 remaining in the third period, and Clark Allain scored regulation-time goals while Rankin Noye, affiliated player Ethan Gallant and Cody McCormack chipped in with assists. Jayden Murphy and Spencer Toole countered for the Matrix (1-6-0). Sarah MacEachern (2) and Angus Beaton added helpers.

Mid-Isle led 1-0 after the first period, and the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of two.

Kiefer Thompson earned the goaltendin­g win over Noah Visser.

Warriors 2 Attack 1

At the Bell Aliant Centre on the UPEI campus, Thompson was the story of the game. The first-year Warrior made 51 saves as the Attack outshot their visitors 52-12. Ryan MacKinnon’s third-period goal broke a 1-1 tie. Edmund Perry also scored for Prince County while Dalton and Colby Perry chipped in with helpers. Colby Huggan, assisted by Chris Koughan and Will Morrison, netted the Attack’s lone goal. The period scores were 1-0 in favour of the Warriors, and 1-1. Shannon MacDonald tended goal for Central (6-1-0).
