Summerside native Jonathan Greenan’s reign as Jeopardy! champ is over, but he walked away with some cash and the satisfaction of having accomplished something he had wanted all his life.

“It was incredibly exciting,” said Greenan.

“The experience of being down there, filming the show and seeing how they make the show, having your name announced on that stage and playing a game and winning a game was just an absolute dream come true.”

Greenan is a legal officer with the P.E.I. Human Rights Commission and now lives in Charlottetown. He won his first showing on the legendary TV game show but lost his second. Both episodes were filmed this past summer but only aired on Nov. 2 and 6 respectively.

Greenan watched the broadcasts with supporters at Evermoore Brewery in Summerside. He said the community has been very supportive and he has received messages of encouragement from all over the world.

Greenan walked away with a little more than $29,000 in prize winnings.

The answer that finally knocked him out of contention was: “Memories of refugees in British train stations before and after WW2 helped inspire the creation of this character.”

The question was “Who was Paddington Bear?” Greenan guessed, “Who was Harry Potter.”
