Holland College announces plans for Charlottetown Event Grounds

-

Holland College has announced its intentions for the Charlottetown Event Grounds, and it does not include a parking lot.

Should the transfer of the property to the college be completed, the plan is to develop the current green space as a multisport artificial turf field, available to local sport and recreation associations, along with college varsity and intra-mural sports. The college hopes the new field will accommodate existing and new sports and that the it will benefit the greatest number of Island youth, sport and recreation organizations possible.

In a news release, the college said it “fully intends to honour and enhance the current usage of the property” and will work within the environmental restrictions currently in place.

In addition, Holland College will be working with all stakeholders, including the City of Charlottetown, the Town of Stratford and the province, to address the needs of current and future users of the event grounds for other compatible purposes on site, such as music festivals and events.

The college plans to maintain the existing box office building on the site and use it as a living laboratory for the college’s energy systems engineering technology students, while continuing to serve the needs of event grounds users.

The college said there is no intention to use the event grounds as parking and said it will work with all stakeholders to make better use of the parking lot across from the event grounds to meet the needs of the college and the Island community.

Holland College will share its plans with the public as they develop and will participate in any recommended or required public consultations.
