Wild keeps winning

Kensington defeats Moncton, Charlottet­own during weekend major midget action

Zach Biggar scored 2:37 into overtime Saturday to give the host Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild a 4-3 win over the Moncton Flyers in New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League action.

It was the Wild’s ninth straight victory as the team improved to 14-2-1 and pushed the Flyers record to 14-1-1. Moncton’s only two losses have come at the hands of the Wild.

The Flyers hosted the Charlottet­own Bulk Carriers Pride Sunday. Results were unavailabl­e at press time. Saturday’s victory was the Wild’s second of the weekend after thumping the Pride 8-1 on Friday in Kensington.

Wild 4, Flyers 3

Bennett MacArthur scored twice while Ryan Richards added one for the Wild against the Flyers.

Ethan Beaulieu had two assists while Biggar, Landon Clow, Colby MacArthur, Zac Arsenault and Dixon MacLeod each added one. Patrick LeBlanc, a Charlottet­own Islanders prospect, had a power-play goal for Moncton while Alexis Dube and Dominic LeBlanc also scored.

Alex Cormier, Cole Cormier, Cedric Bastarache, Yanic Duplessis and Alex Gallant each had an assist.

Chad Arsenault made 31 saves in the victory while Jacob LeBlanc stopped 25 shots in the loss. Kensington held 2-1 and 3-2 period leads, but Dominic LeBlanc tied it midway through the third. Each team was 1-for-4 on the power play.

Wild 8, Pride 1

MacLeod and Simon Hughes each scored twice for Kensington, who built 3-0 and 7-0 period leads against the Pride. Duncan Picketts and Colby MacArthur each had a goal and an assist. Lucas Parsons and Bennett MacArthur also scored. Richards had two helpers while singles were credited to Beaulieu, Biggar, Isaac Wilson, Reid Peardon, Kalib Snow and Jack Campbell.

Reid Vos from Noah Griffin and Cole Larkin replied for Charlottet­own with 2:22 left.

Josh Smith made 24 stops for the victory while Erik MacInnis allowed eight goals on 31 shots. Each team was 0-for-5 on the power play.

Looking ahead

Kensington is on the road Friday with an 8 p.m. contest at Saint John, N.B., before coming home to host the Flyers Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Pride is on the road Saturday to play the Northern Moose at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Fredericto­n Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
