Gallant a stone wall in Regals win

Lund has big game for Central, Kings have late-game heroics in midget AAA contests

Cole Gallant recorded the shutout Saturday as the Western Regals defeated the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils 4-0 to improve to 11-0-0 in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League.

Kalim DesRoches, Jacob Hogan, Alex Arthur and Chase Gaudet scored in the win at Jacques Cartier Arena with the lone assist being credited to Ethan Reilly.

Goalie Logan Birt took the loss for the Red Devils (4-6-1). Western held 1-0 and 2-0 period leads. The Regals were 1-for-3 on the power play and killed all three of Pownal’s opportunit­ies.

Central 6, Moncton 3

Josh Lund scored four goals Saturday as the Sherwood Drug Mart Central Attack doubled the Moncton Hawks 6-3 at MacLauchla­n Arena. Moncton scored the first two goals of the game, but the host side battled back and held 3-2 and 5-3 period leads.

Caden Kielly had three assists while Emmett Lyons (1-1), Justin Richard (0-2), Ben Watts (0-2) and Nick Reeves (0-2) each had two-point games. Matthew Dunn also scored while Owen Stewart added an assist.

Goalie Keegan Duffy earned the win.

Central is 3-8-1 on the season.

Mid-Isle 2, Kings County 2

The Kings County Kings scored two goals in the final 44 seconds to earn a point in a 2-2 tie with the Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix Friday at the APM Centre.

Jack King scored the equalizer with one second remaining after Jake MacLaren had got the Kings on the board.

Gabe Hartlen, Jesse Outhouse, Cam White and Owen MacNeil each had an assist for Kings County.

Landon Hardy on the power play and Nathan Mahar had staked the Matrix to a 2-0 lead with second period goals. Kyler Weeks and Matthew Mills each had an assist.

Matt Jelley made 23 saves for the Matrix while Ben Bruce stopped 33 shots for the Kings. Kings County is 7-2-2 while Mid-Isle is 3-6-3.
