Wild, Flyers’ game called in second period due to power outage
An unforeseen development prevented the conclusion of a first-place showdown in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League on Saturday night.
The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild and the visiting Moncton Flyers entered a muchanticipated matchup at Credit Union Centre in Kensington tied atop the standings with 31 points each.
But with the teams tied 1-1 early in the second period, the power went out.
After waiting to see if the power would come back on, the teams decided to call the game. Ironically, shortly after the decision was made to suspend play, power was restored. No announcement has been made on the rescheduling of the game.
The Wild is 15-2-1 (won-lostovertime losses), and the Flyers are 15-1-1.
Win Friday
The Wild pulled into a firstplace tie with a 6-2 road win over the Saint John Vitos at the QPlex in Quispamsis, N.B., on Friday night.
Kensington rookie goaltender Josh Smith turned in a 22-save effort to improve his leagueleading record to 9-0-0. Smith, the only undefeated goaltender in the league, sports a 2.54 goalsagainst average and .892 save percentage. Offensively, Jack Campbell earned three assists while Reid Peardon scored twice to pace the Wild attack. Keiran Gallant (1-1), Isaac Wilson, Colby MacArthur and Kalib Snow also dented the twine for the Wild, who has now won 10 straight league games and is 17-0-1 overall in their last 18 contests, including an exhibition win over the Notre Dame Argos and six wins and a tie at the recent Monctonian AAA Challenge tournament. Lucas Parsons (2), Landon Clow, Zac Arsenault, Matt McQuaid and Dixon MacLeod chipped in with assists for Kensington, which scored three unanswered second-period goals to take a 4-1 advantage into the second intermission.
Caleb Kean netted both goals for the third-place Vitos (10-7-1). Saint John goaltender Rylan Holder faced 26 shots.
The Wild returns to action on Friday in Charlottetown against the Bulk Carriers Pride, who took a 7-9-1 record into Sunday afternoon’s home game against the Fredericton Caps (7-9-2). Kensington’s next home game is Saturday against Saint John at 7:30 p.m.
