Interim becomes permanent

Denise Lewis Fleming has been appointed the new CEO of Health P.E.I. after serving the role on an interim basis since

May.

Fleming is touted as bringing extensive strategic, operational and policy development experience to the position with the province’s health authority.

“Denise has done an outstanding job as acting CEO and I am confident she will continue to thrive and provide the necessary leadership to move our system forward,” said Health Minister Robert Mitchell. “With over 26 years of experience in the public service, Denise’s’ knowledge and understanding of our health care system will ensure a smooth transition, which is important as we continue to build a system that provides Islanders with access to quality health care services where and when they need it most.’’ Health P.E.I. board chairman James Ravell says the future of health care on P.E.I. is promising and Islanders are fortunate to have a talented team of professionals and health care providers looking after them and their families

“The CEO plays an integral part in helping the board carry out its work,’’ said Ravell. “I am confident that Denise, given her expertise and experience, will continue to be a tremendous leader and innovator for our health authority.”

Health PEI is Prince Edward Island’s single health authority, responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services across the province. Fleming became interim CEO in May, replacing former interim CEO Keith Dewar, who in October 2017 was brought in to fill the role until Health P.E.I. hired a permanent replacement.

At the time, Mitchell said several candidates were selected as part of the interview process for the permanent position, but as it unfolded some dropped out of the running which resulted in the process being delayed to extend the search for a suitable candidate.
