Alberton mayor wins support for breakfast program
Newly elected Alberton Mayor David Gordon had been studying up on his municipal politics before taking to council chambers in his first meeting Monday night. Gordon and Coun. Donnie Bernard are new to council and Claudia Gallant has returned to the table after a four-year absence.
David Gordon admitted he was feeling anxious as he prepared Monday night to chair his first meeting as mayor of Alberton.
The meeting ran smoothly and council concluded the public portion of the meeting in under 30 minutes.
Gordon said he has been studying up on the stack of bylaws and other municipal documents that Chief Administrative Officer Susan Wallace Flynn provided him last week; a stack, he said, with enough paper to extend to Elmsdale corner.

Back for another term are councllors Connie Bernard, David Cahill, Blair Duggan and Kelly Williams.
The new mayor won support from his council when he suggested the school breakfast program at Alberton Elementary School would be a good place for a $300 Christmas donation. “That takes a lot of money to keep that going,” he said, noting breakfast is provided three mornings a week.
The money is what the town would normally spend on a Christmas get-together for council and staff.
In recent years, though, council has elected to support a special cause instead.
Mayor Gordon said he wants to hold discussions with his councillors before setting the council committees.
He said the committees will be in place in time for the January monthly meeting.
