Assault, break-in, traffic violations among list

Weekly RCMP report from Dec. 3 to 9

Editor’s Note: A total of 95 occurrence­s were investigat­ed by Prince District RCMP between Dec. 3 and 9. The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions:

RCMP investigat­ing break-in

On Dec. 3, around 4 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a call of a break-in at a residence in O’Leary. The occupant of the residence had been hospitaliz­ed for a few days and returned to find his apartment had been broken into. Food, medication and jewellery were missing. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

Man charged with assault

On Dec. 3, around 11 p.m., West Prince RCMP attended a residence in Cape Wolf to investigat­e an assault. A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats towards a female. He is scheduled to appear in court in early January.

Checkpoint conducted

On Dec. 4, around noon West Prince RCMP, along with Highway Safety officials, conducted a checkpoint on Church Street in Alberton. Approximat­ely 300 vehicles were checked, and a few verbal warnings were issued.

Driver passes school bus

On Dec. 6, around 4 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle that drove through the school bus lights and stop sign on Route 1A in Albany. The vehicle was described as a black Dodge pickup. No plate was obtained however the vehicle had ‘2008 Dodge’ on the front plate. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

Fraud complaint investigat­ed

On Dec. 7, around 12:30 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a fraud complaint from a resident of Ascension. The complainan­t had sent an e-transfer to secure the purchase of a phone that was for sale on Facebook. The seller then blocked the complainan­t from Facebook and has not heard from the seller since. Similar cases have been reported on Kijiji. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

The public is reminded to be cautious when making a purchase from or unknown people or companies that require e-transfer of funds prior to the buyer receiving the item. When meeting to purchase an item, meet in a public place, exchange the money for the item at the same time. Remember to check the seller’s profile, do they live in the area? How long have they had their profile? Research your item to ensure it is priced right and remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Recaps and Reminders

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 15 traffic-related complaints. The complaints pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP continue to conduct checkpoint­s throughout the month of December, in various communitie­s across Prince County, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
