Pathfinders and Rangers honoured at ceremony
Presentation of awards given by Lt. Gov. Antoinette Perry to Island Girl Guides
Nine Pathfinders and Rangers from Girl Guides of Canada-P.E.I. Area were honoured recently at a special ceremony at the Lieutenant Governor’s House.
They received their Canada Cord (CCC) and Bronze or Silver Chief Commissioner’s Award (BCC/SCC).
The Guides have finished or are continuing a three-year program to help develop skills and become responsible adults through “demonstrating leadership, providing community service, planning camps/events, taking a first aid course and bridging with other units of all ages.”
The ceremony began with the singing of “O’ Canada” and P.E.I Area Commissioner, Shelley MacDonald, lighting a candle to represent the Sisterhood of Guiding around the world.
P.E.I. Lt. Gov. Antoinette Perry, welcomed girls and Guiders along with their families and friends, as well as offered words of encouragement and congratulations.
Candles were lit by the recipients who received their certificates from the lieutenant governor, while their brief biographies were read.
Guiders for the girls; Freda Smit-McKie – 1st Little Pond Pathfinders and Rangers; Sara MacLean – 1st Queen’s Pathfinders; Patricia Allen and Rebecca MacLean – 1st Summerside Pathfinders and Rangers and Jaunita Boucher – 1st Kensington Pathfinders and Rangers presented the awards.
The recipients were each given a bouquet of flowers by Boucher as the colours of the flowers were explained as representatives of their lives in Guiding and at home, as they have matured and are ready to face new challenges. The evening then closed with a final thank you and presentation of flowers to Perry, and the singing of “God Save the Queen”.
