The P.E.I. Scotties women’s and Tankard men’s provincial curling championships get underway Wednesday at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Here’s a look at the teams and schedule.

Women’s teams are set to start things off at 9 a.m., weather permitting, with Veronica Smith playing Lisa Jackson, Sarah Fullerton facing Chloé McCloskey and Melissa Morrow meeting Tammy Dewar. Suzanne Birt has the first draw bye and will play the winner of the Morrow/Dewar game at 2 p.m. in an A Qualifier semifinal of the modified triple-knockout championship. The winners of the other 9 a.m. games will square off in the other A semifinal at 7 p.m.
The men’s championship is also a modified triple-knockout event. Tankard teams Team Higgins, Silver Fox Curling Club

At 7 p.m., the A Qualifier semifinals will be played with Steve van Ouwerkerk taking on the winner of the Higgins/Likely game, and reigning junior champion Tyler Smith facing the winner of the MacKenzie/Newson contest.
The men’s A Qualifier final is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, and the women’s A Qualifier is on the schedule for 2 p.m. Thursday. Four men’s and four women’s teams were seeded based on earnings this season.
Men’s seedings: 1. Van Ouwerkerk, 2. T. Smith, 3. MacKenzie, 4. Higgins. Women’s seedings: 1. Birt, 2. V. Smith, 3. Fullerton, 4. Morrow. The schedules for the respective championships have draws Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The 7 p.m. draw on Saturday could determine one or both championships, should a team win all three of the qualifiers. Otherwise, draws Sunday at 9 a.m. and, if necessary, 2 p.m., will determine the champions.
