Vote wisely

-

The New Year will begin the heating up of election fervour across the Island. In particular we will see much action from the PC leadership race. Five candidates all promising to do better for islanders - better health care, better climate action, more employment etc. etc.

Possibly these five candidates truly believe they can do better. However, we should remember doing better than the Liberal government would not be too difficult. I have noticed lately, both Liberals and PCs, have been knocking the Greens, clearly both are concerned with the rise of the Green Party. Nevertheless, we need to think very carefully before we vote in the next provincial election. We must ask the question, how truly different are the two old parties?

It is important to remember, the day after the Binns’ PCs were elected, Gordon Lank (previously a PC MLA) was at Binns’s office looking for money. He received approximately one million dollars to build his factory pig farm in Wheatley River. I realize this is history now, but maybe we should consider if this could happen again. Both these old parties depend on patronage. Perhaps, we need to give a new political party a chance. Islanders must think for themselves and not be influenced by glib politicians making promises they have no intention of fulfilling. Remember MacLauchlan? He said he would do government differently, and we all know how that worked out. I’m not suggesting how islanders should vote, I’m merely reminding us of what has happened over and over again in the last few elections. That folks is my best advice for 2019. God Bless and vote wisely.
