Arsenault sparks Wild’s win over Pride

KENSINGTON – Veteran Zac Arsenault scored back-to-back goals late in the second period to give the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild control of Saturday night’s game against the Charlottet­own Bulk Carriers Pride.

Arsenault, who added an assist for a three-point night, dented the twine at 16:18 and 18:03 to turn a 2-1 game into a 4-1 Wild lead at the end of 40 minutes after a scoreless opening period. The Wild went on to win the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League game 6-1 at Credit Union Centre in Kensington.

Arsenault, a third-year defenceman from Montague and a draft pick of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Charlottet­own Islanders, improved his point total to 31, including 12 goals and 19 assists, in 29 regular-season games.

Bennett MacArthur (1-1), Jack Campbell (1-1), Dixon MacLeod and Reid Peardon also scored for Kensington, which improved to 25-6-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Keiran Gallant (2), Colby MacArthur (2), Landon Clow (2) and Ryan Richards contribute­d assists.

Max Chisholm, assisted by Declan MacEachern, replied for the Pride (15-17-1).

Overall, each team recorded 31 shots on goal. Josh Smith earned the goaltendin­g win, and Erik MacInnis was between the pipes for the Pride.

The Wild’s road game against the Northern Moose (1-28-2) in Bathurst, N.B., on Sunday afternoon was postponed due to traffic restrictio­ns on the Confederat­ion Bridge. The Wild has three regular-season games remaining – at home against the Moose on Wednesday at 7:50 p.m., at the Fredericto­n Caps (8-20-4) on Feb. 17 and the make-up game from Sunday.

The Pride has one regular-season game remaining – a make-up game at the Moose from Friday night that is yet to be reschedule­d.
