The largely attended funeral for the late Sheldon Shawn O’ Meara, beloved husband to Maria Yvette (nee Doucette) O’ Meara was held on Saturday February 9, 2019 from the Rooney Funeral Home and Chapel Alberton to St. Simon and St. Jude Church Tignish where funeral mass was celebrated at 2;00 p.m. by the Rev. Albin Arsenault who delivered the Homily and had the prayers of final commendati­on and fairwell. The first reading was addressed by Emma Doucette who also invited the prayers of the faith full. The second reading was addressed by Trallawny O’ Meara. The Eucharisti­c ministers were Seminarian, Walter Flynn, James Hogan, Jeanette Gaudet and Bernadette Pederson. The Crucifer was Louis Shea and the candle bearers were Clarence Gallant and Charles Bernard. The alter server was James Hogan. The choir was under the direction of the cantor Vincent Doucette. The organist was Diane Handrahan. The procession­al hymn was, Be Not Afraid. The psalm was, Rest in God Alone, Rest in God Alone, My Soul, My Soul. The offertory hymn was I Will Never Forget You My people. The communion hymn was I Am the Bread of Life. The post communion hymn solo, Go Rest High on That Mountain was sung by Abby Peters accompanie­d on guitar by vocalist Rodney Arsenault. The song of fairwell was Songs of the Angels. The recessiona­l hymn was, Here I Am Lord. Attending the funeral were staff from the Dept of Veterans Affairs Charlottet­own. The Honorary Pallbearer­s were Curtis and Kelly Reilly, Carter Reilly and Leanne Yeo, Cory Morrison, Dan Casley, Darcy and Brandy Foley, Jason and Sabrina Milligan, Nicole and Cory Doyle, Alan and Jennifer Harper, Chad and Stacey Gaudet, Jamie Matthews, David and Gwen Clements, Kirk MacLeod ,Melissa MacIsaac, Pat Eastman, Laura Braden, Mark and Carla Hickey, Tanya and Adam Gaudet, David Brennan, Melanie and Ritchie Profit, Joey and Amber Mokler, Kenneth and Natalie Griffin, Natalie Bulger, Darren and Tasha Ashley, Dennis Trainor. The active pallbearer­s were brothers, Trevor O’ Meara, Michael O’ Meara, Matthew O’ Meara, Darcy O’ Meara, friends, Patrick Drouin, Chris Foley. The flower bearers were nieces and nephews, Emma Doucette, Catherine Buote, Zack O’ Meara. Zander O’ Meara, Thomas Doucette, Jake Buote. Interment will later take place in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Alberton.
