ALBANY – Two men are in custody after the Prince District JFO Drug Unit found weapons and drugs in their house.

The special unit executed a search warrant in Albany Thursday morning.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed for a short time around 6 a.m. while officers used tear gas and entered the residence.

Officers seized around 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine pills, around two ounces of crystal methamphetamine, some Ritalin and a small amount of cocaine.

“It’s a significant seizure,” said Cpl. Nick Doyle with the Prince District JFO. “It’s probably the largest methamphetamine pill seizure in Prince District in the last few years.”

The street value of the pills alone is about $21,000, said Doyle. A loaded sawed-off rifle, a loaded shotgun, three pellet hand guns, two pellet long guns, a number of knives, a machete, brass knuckles, two batons and bear spray were also taken under the warrant. Doyle anticipates unsafe storage charges will follow.

The search warrant and seizure are part of the Joint Forces Operations regular work.

“We proactively target drug traffickers and people who are involved with firearms,” said Doyle.

The Prince District JFO Drug Unit is made up of officers from the RCMP, Summerside and Kensington Police Services.

The JFO was assisted in this case by the P.E.I. RCMP Federal Serious Organized Crime, P.E.I. RCMP Police Dog Service, N.B. RCMP Emergency Response Team, N.B. RCMP Explosive Device Unit and P.E.I. RCMP Major Crime Unit.

Members of the Borden-Carleton Fire Department were also on site with equipment to assist the RCMP. Two women were taken into custody at the same time and released.

The men remain custody and will be facing firearms and drug charges.

Cpl. Doyle anticipated the men will be charged in Summerside on Friday. Police thanked the travelling public for their patience during travel delays while the highway was closed.
