Credit Union Music P.E.I. Week kicks off Feb. 5

Music P.E.I. has announced the full lineup of events for the 2020 Credit Union Music P.E.I. Week taking place Feb. 5-9.

The five-day festival will celebrate some of the best of Island music from this past year with shows at various venues featuring many of the 2020 Music P.E.I Award nominees and special guests.

It kicks off with the opening reception at The Alley on Wednesday, Feb. 5, starting at 6:30 pm. There will be refreshmen­ts, snacks and bowling. At 10 p.m., everyone is invited to head over to Baba’s Lounge where Emilee Sorrey will host the Open Mic. Backline will be provided, so bring your band.

Feb. 6 is the returning favourite SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Concert. Starting at 7:30 pm at

St. Paul’s Church and hosted by Matt Rainnie, nominees Andrew Waite, Dennis Ellsworth, Irish Mythen, Rick Sparkes, and Tara MacLean will perform in a cozy Songwriter­s’ Circle with interviews by Rainnie giving a glimpse into the stories behind the songs. The 2020 Music P.E.I. SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Award will be presented at the end of the evening.

On Friday, Feb. 7 Credit

Union Music P.E.I. Week features two different shows at two different venues. At 7:30 pm head to The Guild for Music Mosaic, an eclectic mixture of music featuring some accomplish­ed nominees—Vishtèn, Sirène and Matelot (featuring Lennie Gallant and Patricia Richard), Zabulon Kajumbura, Fayo, and the SoPA World Music Ensemble.

For a late show, get rocking at Red Dirt Rock with Dennis Ellsworth, David Woodside, Soul Filter, and Brad Milligan Band at 10:30 p.m. at Hunter’s Ale House.

On Saturday, Feb. 8, enjoy Wintertime Tunes at 7:30 pm at The Guild. Performanc­es are by Tara MacLean, Winterjazz, Hailey MacIsaac and Vince the Messenger. Also, at 7:30 p.m., plant yourself in Summerside at the beautiful Celtic Performing Arts Centre at the College of Piping for Diggin’ Deep Roots featuring Gordie MacKeeman & his Rhythm Boys, Blair Gaudet, Greg Bungay, Maureen Trainor and Inn Echo.

Throughout the week—and the month—music lovers can view the Music P.E.I. Album Art exhibit in Summerside at the Eptek Art and Culture Centre.

On Sunday afternoon Music PEI will host the Awards Party. Featuring music by Island Jazz, this invitation only get-together at The Rodd Charlottet­own Hotel is an opportunit­y for 2020 Award Nominees and guests to celebrate each other’s achievemen­ts.

The week’s festivitie­s will come to a close Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Florence Simmons Performanc­e Hall.

The Festival Finale begins at 7:30 pm and includes performanc­es by the Music PEI award top nominees including Irish Mythen, Cory Gallant, Gordie Mackeeman & his Rhythm Boys, Paper Lions, and Sorrey.
