Flyers, Aces post playoff wins in WPSHL

ALBERTON – The Wellington Flyers and Tignish Aces posted playoff victories in the West Prince Senior Hockey League on Saturday night.

The Flyers defeated the Alberton Regals 7-5 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series. Meanwhile, the Aces took Game 1 of their best-of-five semifinal series against the O’Leary Maroons by a 5-2 score.

At the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton, Jake Arsenault and Colin Arsenault each scored twice for the Flyers, who won the series opener 7-3 in Abram-Village on Wednesday. Jaimie Caissie, Owen Arsenault and Abel Arsenault rounded out Wellington’s scoring.

Ned O’Brien netted a hat trick to lead the Regals offensivel­y. Kenzie Horne and Jason Smallman chipped in with single tallies.

The Flyers built period leads of 2-1 and 6-2.

Jordan Arsenault earned the goaltendin­g win. Spencer Rennie was between the pipes for Alberton.

The Flyers are scheduled to host Game 3 at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

ACES 5 MAROONS 2

At the O’Leary Community Sports Centre, five different players – Chase McCue, Lucas Gaudet, Cole Hackett, Brayden Handrahan and

Evan Shea – found the back of the net for the Aces.

Aaron Sweet and James Murphy countered for the Maroons.

Tignish held period leads of 2-1 and 5-1.

The winning goaltender was Troy Ellsworth. Chase Dyment handled the goaltendin­g duties for O’Leary.

Game 2 was scheduled for the Tignish Credit Union Arena on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Game 3 will be played back in O’Leary on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
