Charlottetown man stabbed several times

- JIM DAY

Police say a man was stabbed numerous times in a residential drive-way in Charlottetown Sunday.

Charlottetown Police Deputy Chief Brad MacConnell says police responded to a call regarding a stabbing at 11:40 p.m. in Andrews Court off Northridge Parkway.

Officers found a 31-yearold Charlottetown man with several stab wounds in the abdomen area. The victim was also sprayed with either pepper spray or bear spray.

“He was coherent at the time but not overly co-operative with police,’’ says MacConnell.

The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to be treated for injuries, which were not deemed life-threatening.

“Serious injuries,’’ adds MacConnell. “They had the potential to be life-threatening.’’ The man remains in hospital.

MacConnell says police have a suspect, but no arrest has been made. Police believe the victim and the suspect are known to each other.

“Although we do not have anyone in custody we do not believe there are any public concerns,’’ he adds.

MacConnell says possible charges include assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm.

“We don’t know the full details of what happened,’’ he says. “We don’t know if the stabbing was in defence of something. We are still trying to sort all of that out.’’

While the stabbing was believed to be drug-related, no drugs were found at the scene.

Two other occupants were present at the residence when police arrived, but MacConnell says neither are believed to have been at the scene when the incident occurred.

Street level officers with the Charlottetown Police Services and the major crime unit are investigating.

“The investigation is ongoing and we will further the investigation with other interviews,’’ says MacConnell.

Police are asking for anyone with information to contact them at 902-629-4172 or at CrimeStoppers at 1-800-2228577.
