Rotary Passport Club starting on P.E.I.
An information session on the new Rotary Passport Club was held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, led by Rotarian Bob Moffatt.
Guest speaker District Governor
Louisa Horne explained that the traditional model of Rotary is not for everybody.
Many professionals do not have the time every week to meet in a formal meeting environment.
Horne said the new Rotary Passport Club meeting structure is flexible and will be determined by the group. For example, the frequency of virtual or face-to-face meetings could range from monthly to quarterly. Members are encouraged to visit and work with other Rotary Clubs locally and worldwide and to take part in activities, programs and projects that interest and engage them.
They experience fellowship as they work on projects in their community and internationally in a new more affordable organization.
A Passport Club is designed for men and women who want to make a difference in local and global communities, who cannot attend scheduled meetings and who find a traditional club doesn't fit their lifestyle.
Horne engaged the audience in discussion how Rotarians are helping people worldwide. She has just returned from Uganda where she took part in training local women on how to care for newborn babies. The program is being managed by Micro Medical Researchers at the IWK in Halifax and funded in part by the Rotary Clubs on Prince Edward Island.
