- Atlantic Briefs Desk

COVID-19 spring booster shots are now available throughout P.EI., and the province’s Chief Public Health Officer is encouraging Islanders to stay up to date on their vaccines.

“Vaccination against

COVID-19 has been proven to reduce your risk of serious illness, hospitalization, and death,” said Dr. Heather Morrison.

“We will continue to follow (National Advisory Committee on Immunization) guidance and encourage individuals on the timing of additional booster doses if recommended.”

The NACI recommends boosters for adults 65 and older, residents of long-term care and other congregate living settings for seniors; and people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised.

The booster program, which can be administered to those who had a dose or infection within the last three to six months, will run until May 31.

The timeline ensures that if there is a need for a fall booster, people at higher risk would be eligible for their next shot ahead of the respiratory illness season.

COVID-vaccine boosters and flu shots are available at participating community pharmacies across the Island via appointment, through Health P.E.I. vaccination clinics by calling toll-free 1-844-975-3303 or booking online at Skip the Waiting Room.
