SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – The Summerside music community is gearing up for a big evening of memories and philanthropy as they gather for the second Owen Hann Keeping Music Alive Fundraiser.

Set to take place on April 20 at the Silver Fox Entertainment Complex, doors will open at 7 p.m. for an evening dedicated to honouring the legacy of local musician and active community member, Owen Hann.

Owen's son, Nick Hann, said his father's sudden passing right before Christmas 2022, left a profound void in the hearts of his family. To honour their loved one's legacy, his family launched Keeping Music Alive last year.

Whether behind the meat counter at Summerside Superstore, where he dedicated 30 years of service, or gracing stages with his musical prowess, Owen's impact was profound and far-reaching, said Nick.

"My father was a great man who always had a smile on his face. His family was everything to him, and he was everything to us,” he added.

"His musical talent was second to none, we knew we wanted to honour his memory and to be able to support young musicians chasing their dreams while doing so is just incredible."

Last year's Keeping Music Alive event raised more than $16,000 and drew more than 500 attendees. The funds raised were allocated towards various initiatives, including the establishment of an annual $5,000 bursary for a Three Oaks Senior High School student pursuing postsecondary education in music, individual $1,000 donations to each elementary school music program in Summerside, and sponsorships for youth attending Island Rock Camps.

This year's event will feature performances by some of P.E.I.'s top musical acts, all of whom, say his family, shared special connections with Owen.

Attendees can look forward to sets by Eddy Quinn and

Old Habits, Route 225, West End Blues Band, Ellis Family Band, Down with Darby, Kenny Pearl and the Oysters, Amanda Jackson and more. There will also be a special guest performance by Owen's daughter, Brittanny Hann-Bowness.

"We were overwhelmed by the response to last year's event, and it's truly heartwarming to see the outpouring of love and support," said Nick. "This event means so much to my family, and we're honoured to continue Owen's legacy by keeping music alive in our community."

The evening will also include a 50/50 draw and a silent auction, with admission by donation at the door. For those unable to attend but interested in supporting the cause, donations can be sent to owenhannmemorial@gmail.com.
