Outstanding community members from Glengarry-Prescott-Russell were recognized by MP Francis Drouin last week.
Every Member of Parliament received special Canada 150 pins, made from the copper of the roof of Parliament, to hand out to outstanding community members in their respective districts.
MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Francis Drouin presented his Sesquicentennial Awards on Thursday, February 22, at the River Rock Inn in Rockland, during an official ceremony.
The 17 people recognized are from all corners of the region, from Hawkesbury and Vankleek Hill to Saint-Isidore, and from Russell and Limoges to Rockland.
“I am glad that we were able to recognize the amazing work accomplished by these individuals,” said Drouin. “They truly make our community a better place.”
Gary Barton from Vankleek Hill, Marius Bauer of Alexandria and Claude Thériault from Hawkesbury were amongst the recipients.
Marie-Claire Ivanksi from Embrun, Chanelle and Laura Beaudry-Andrews from Casselman, Connie Johnston from Russell and Shirley Racine from Limoges were also recognized.
There were also recipients from SaintIsidore, namely Louis and Denise Latulippe and Claude Levac.
From Rockland, Cst. Alexander Young, Stéphane Lacroix, Sylvie Bisson and Denis Vaillancourt were also among the recipients, along with Fred Hyde from Navan and Shelley MacPhee from Dunvegan.
Their families, friends and fellow community members nominated all the recipients honoured.
The call for nominations took place during the fall of 2017 and more than 75 nominations were received from all across the Glengarry-Prescott-Russell riding.
