Scott High Rise Challenge
On June 3rd, four members of the Bagotville Fire Department, Sgt Thierry Gendron, Sgt Louis- Marie Neault, Cpl Marc- André Primeau and Private Jonathan Guay attended the 2016 Scott Montreal High Rise Challenge to raise money for muscular dystrophy. The event was held in Montreal at Place Victoria.
The challenge was for participants to climb 48 floors, 1,125 steps, while dressed in their firefighting equipment. The team members also were challenged to do another feat; climbing the stairs carrying a child affected by the disease. A challenge that the team leader, Cpl Primeau, immediately accepted. The Bagotville mem- bers spent a month training at the Bagotville control tower in order to ensure they can perform their best.
As the Bagotville firefighters waited to do their 48 floor climb, the event coordinator, Ms. Dominique Rivet- Dugal came to ask them to carry two people with the disease up from the 45th floor of the Stock Exc h a n g e T o w e r .
The first ascent took place with Anthony, a 15 year old boy. While Sgt Gendron and Anthony took the elevator to the 45th floor, Sgt Neault, Primeau and Cpl Guay made the climb with the team that supports Anthony.
At the 45th floor, it was time for Anthony to go up and the team transported him to the roof of the building. The boy had a huge smile on his face when he arrived on the roof.
The firefighters would like to thank everyone who helped them with this challenge; the Bagotville Fire Department, the base hospital for the loan of their stretcher, without which they could not have brought these young people to the top, and finally, the Cpl PerronBelley, who helped the team with administration.
The Bagotville firefighters will hold a car wash on July 15th, 2016 in the parking lot of the base chapel to raise funds to benefit the Saguenay Muscular Dystrophy charity.
