Other highlights from the crop production forecast:

Canadian barley production is expected to increase 4.4 per cent from 2015 to 8.4 million tonnes in 2016. Saskatchew­an barley production is projected to increase to 3.3 million tonnes from 2.9 million tonnes in 2015.

Nationally, oat production is anticipate­d to decrease 13 per cent from 2015 to 2.9 million tonnes in 2016, as a result of a 12.5 per cent decline in harvested acres to 2.2 million acres. Production of oats in Saskatchew­an is estimated to be 1.6 million tonnes, down from 1.9 million tonnes last year.

Production of lentils in Canada is projected at 3.2 million tonnes, compared with 2.3 million tonnes last year. Saskatchew­an lentils production is forecast at 2.8 million tonnes, compared with 2.4 million tonnes last year.

Saskatchew­an field pea production is projected to be 2.2 million tonnes, up from 1.8 million tonnes last year.
